What this policy covers
This privacy policy explains how the mobile application Compressify (the “app”) handles information when you use it. The app is published under the package name com.compressify.video.
How the app works
Compressify compresses your videos to reduce their file size, and can scan your device for large videos so you can free up space. All video compression happens 100% on your device using an on-device engine. Your video files are never uploaded to any server and never leave your device as part of compression.
The short version
- Your video files never leave your device. All compression happens locally on your phone.
- We do not collect, store, or transmit the content of your videos.
- The app does not require an account or sign-up.
- The app shows ads through Google AdMob, which uses your device’s advertising identifier.
- The app uses Google Firebase and a first-party, self-hosted analytics service for anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting, to help us fix bugs and improve the app. This never includes your videos.
What we do NOT collect
- Your video files, their content, or any frames, audio, or thumbnails inside them.
- Your name, email address, phone number, or other personal identifiers (unless you choose to send them to us through the contact form).
- Your precise location.
- Your contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera input.
The “Find large videos” feature
When you use the “Find large videos” feature, Compressify reads the list of videos on your device (through Android’s media library) to show you files larger than 100 MB so you can compress them and free up space. This scan happens entirely on your device. We do not upload, transmit, copy, share, sell, or otherwise transfer your videos, file names, file sizes, or any other media metadata to our servers or to any third party, and we do not retain a list of your videos after you close the screen. You can grant or revoke this access at any time from Android system Settings, then Apps, then Compressify, then Permissions.
What stays on your device
Compressed videos are saved where you choose (for example your gallery), and the app keeps a local Compression History (file name, original and output file size, timestamp, and settings used) in an on-device database so you can review recent results. The content of your videos is never uploaded by us. Uninstalling the app removes this on-device history.
Permissions the app requests
Video and file access
The app reads the videos you pick through the system picker so it can compress them, and, for the “Find large videos” feature, reads your device’s video library to list large files. On Android 13 and above this uses the READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permission (and the user-selected media option where available); on older versions it uses read access to storage. It never scans your storage for any other purpose.
Internet access
The app uses the internet only to serve advertisements (Google AdMob), to load Google’s consent form, and to send anonymous usage analytics and crash reports (to Google Firebase and to our own first-party analytics service). Your video files and their contents are never sent over the network.
Advertising via Google AdMob
We monetize the app with Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process the following on Google’s servers in order to serve and measure ads:
- Your device’s advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID on Android).
- General device information such as device model, OS version, language, and approximate region.
- IP address and ad interaction events.
In the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland, the app presents a Google-certified consent message (Google’s User Messaging Platform) so you can choose whether ads are personalized. You can reset or remove your advertising identifier at any time in your device settings. Google’s use of advertising data is governed by Google’s own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy, and AdMob’s practices are described here: support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543.
Analytics and crash reporting
The app uses Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, and Firebase Performance Monitoring) to understand how the app is used in aggregate and to detect and fix crashes. For these purposes Google may collect and process on its servers:
- App usage and interaction events (for example, screens opened and features used), in aggregate.
- General device and app information such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, and approximate region.
- An app-instance identifier and diagnostic information.
- Crash logs, stack traces, and the device state at the time of a crash.
This data is used only to improve the app’s stability and experience. It is not used to serve personalized ads, is not sold, and never includes the content of your videos. Google’s handling of this data is governed by Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy, and Firebase’s practices are described here: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Separately from Google Firebase, the app also uses a first-party, self-hosted analytics service (running on our own infrastructure on Cloudflare) that collects the same kind of anonymous usage data: an anonymous, randomly generated app-instance identifier plus interaction events (for example, app opened, a compression started or finished, a screen opened) together with counts, file sizes in KB, durations, and format labels. It never includes your videos, file names, or any personal data, and is used only to improve the app.
In-app purchases
If you purchase an option to remove ads or unlock premium features, the transaction is processed securely by Google Play Billing. Compressify does not receive or store your payment or billing information.
Data sharing
We do not sell your data. Data is received by Google — through the AdMob service (for advertising), Firebase (for analytics and crash reporting), and Google Play Billing (for purchases) — and by our own first-party analytics service (self-hosted on Cloudflare), which receives only anonymous usage data. These parties act to provide those services on our behalf, subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
Children
The app is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will respond.
Data retention
Locally-stored compression history stays on your device only. Uninstalling the app deletes all on-device data. Data held by Google (AdMob, Firebase, Play Billing) is retained according to Google’s policies; anonymous events held by our first-party analytics service are retained only in aggregate for product improvement.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personal data on our own servers, there is nothing on our side for you to access, correct, export, or delete. For data Google may hold about your device’s advertising identifier, you can manage your preferences in your device settings or via Google’s ad settings page: adssettings.google.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The current version is indicated by the “Last updated” date below. Material changes will be published at this URL before they take effect in the app.
